Is Lime OG indica or sativa? Its genetics and two lineages

Lime OG is a hybrid, and the name covers two documented crosses. Exotic Genetix, a Washington breeder, made it from Lime Skunk and Triple OG; Grounded Genetics in Barcelona sells feminized seeds of Triangle Kush × (Lemon Tree S1 × Runtz) under the same name.1,2,3,4 By Leafly’s parent listings the two share, at most, a distant ancestor in DNA Genetics’ Lemon Skunk.5,6,7

Which Lime OG? Two breeders, two crosses

Two seed companies sell different plants under this name. Neither the "OG" suffix, the lime aroma nor the shared retail name joins them into one pedigree, so this guide keeps them apart.

SeedFinder’s overview page for the name lists only the Exotic Genetix version, while its separate entry for Grounded’s version loads at its own address; nothing in either entry links the two.16,17

The Exotic Genetix parents: Lime Skunk and Triple OG

Lime Skunk is Exotic Genetix’s own cross of DNA Genetics’ Lemon Skunk and its Green Ribbon BX, which Leafly files as a sativa with "an unparalleled aroma of fresh limes", a terpinolene-led profile and energetic, focused, uplifted effects; Leafly says it was brought to market by Cresco Labs.5 SeedFinder calls it mostly sativa, while a seed retailer’s listing for discontinued packs says 50/50.18,19 Green Ribbon itself is a hybrid Leafly traces to Green Crack, Trainwreck, Afghanica and White Rhino.20

Triple OG is the indica side, and its own parents are disputed. Leafly users call it relaxed, sleepy and euphoric, with pineapple, diesel and chemical flavors.21 Mike of Exotic Genetix told Leafly in 2018 that he had already "used it in my Triple OG lineup" when describing seeds from an Amsterdam trip about five years earlier, so the line predates that interview.22

The Grounded Genetics parents: Triangle Kush, Lemon Tree and Runtz

Grounded’s Lime OG crosses Triangle Kush with Pink Limez, which SeedFinder’s breeder text gives as Lemon Tree S1 × Runtz; the product is tagged "Pink Limez hybrids" on the breeder’s site, where Pink Limez otherwise appears only inside another cross.3,4,16

Leafly describes Triangle Kush, also called Triangle OG, as an indica that originated in Florida and was named for the state’s three cannabis-producing cities; Lemon Tree as a hybrid of Lemon Skunk and Sour Diesel; and Runtz as the Cookies Fam cross of Zkittlez and Gelato that was its Strain of the Year in 2020.6,24,25

What the two lines share

Less than the name suggests. By Leafly’s parent listings, both descend from DNA Genetics’ Lemon Skunk: the Exotic Genetix line through Lime Skunk, the Grounded line through Lemon Tree.5,6,7 Triangle Kush may be a second shared ancestor, but only if SeedFinder’s parentage for Exotic Genetix’s Triple OG is right; Leafly says Triple OG comes from an unknown cross.3,21,23

How indica is it?

No source publishes a measured split, and the labels for the Exotic Genetix line disagree.

What our lab data adds

The labels on lab certificates do not say which breeder’s Lime OG was tested. Our strict name matching found only 29 flower tests of plain Lime OG and set aside 35 results under near-miss names (10 of them flower), led by "PMG Lime OG - Bud" (5 results), two-strain labels such as "Lemon Skunk/Lime OG" and crosses such as "Lime OG × Sour Crack × Chemdogging"; another 33 strict-match results were concentrates, not flower.28

Strains bred from Lime OG

SeedFinder counts 13 direct descendants of Exotic Genetix’s Lime OG and none of Grounded’s; the five below were checked on their own SeedFinder pages.2,16
