The history of Lime OG

Timeline

1. 2008Exotic Genetix begins in Washington State; its breeder, Mike, told Leafly in 2018 that he "started out doing this for myself and friends about ten years ago".^1,7
2. About 2013On a trip to Amsterdam, Mike receives unreleased Hortilab × Karma seeds and, in his words, "used it in my Triple OG lineup" to make Tina; Triple OG, the father of Lime OG, was already an established line.¹

Why it is rare

Weedmaps calls Lime OG "a rare and possibly archival hybrid", and the seed record fits: SeedFinder lists Exotic Genetix’s release as regular F2 seeds, the breeder’s site and a major retailer list no Lime OG today, and the parent Lime Skunk survives only as discontinued vault packs.^{9,11,12,13,14} What reaches menus comes from a clone sold by a nursery and from licensed brands that grow or process it: Crops in Illinois and Ohio, Nomad Extracts in Colorado.^2,15,16,17

The lab record is thin for the same reason: only 29 strictly matched flower tests, 23 of them from Michigan, against 33 concentrate results under the same name.⁴

The breeder

Exotic Genetix is run from Tacoma, Washington, by a breeder known publicly as Mike or Exotic Mike, who began by handing new crosses to friends and, Leaf Magazine writes, by seeing patients at his hydroponics shop struggle with poor genetics.^1,7,18 Leafly credits the company with numerous awards since 2008, including two 2017 High Times SoCal Harvest Cup wins; a retailer that stocks the brand claims more than 100 Cannabis Cup wins, a figure the breeder’s own site does not give.^1,12,19 In 2022 Cannara Biotech took on exclusive distribution of its genetics in Canada.⁷

The disputed and undocumented parts

• Release date: no source opened gives the year Exotic Genetix released Lime OG or whether seeds were sold directly.^9,12
• Triple OG’s parents: Leafly says an unknown cross; SeedFinder gives Triangle Kush × Constantine × Master Yoda for Exotic Genetix’s version (see genetics).^20,21
• Which line the labs tested: the 29 certificates name the strain, not the breeder, and the Michigan records carry no producer.⁴
• Lime Skunk’s split: sativa (Leafly), mostly sativa (SeedFinder) or 50/50 (a retailer’s listing).^14,22,23
• Whether the two Lime OGs are related at all beyond a Lemon Skunk ancestor in each pedigree.^22,24
